CATCHUP FROM LATE 2008 TO APRIL 2009

It's been too long since the last news item and so here is a catchup of sorts so everyone who has been asking knows what is going on.

December 2008 I was awarded the title of "Photographer of the Year" by the Hobart Photographic Society. This was the reward I received after a long twelve months of club competitions, 10 in all, with two entries allowed in each, with the best results taken from your best 15 entries. The photographer who achieves the highest points is awarded the title at the end of the competition year.

To stay ahead was a real challenge and a personal achievement for myself. If I do it again this year it will be a miracle but the challenge is on already and so I am looking forward to a challenge in photographic terms any time. Others who know me well say this is when I probably do my best work. We will see.

ABC radio reporter Carol Raabus paid a visit to our club exhibition held at Mawson Place on Hobart wharf in February. Carol was collecting interviews on behalf of the Annie Wharburton show and interviewed several of our club members, including myself. I was lucky enough to have a few of my photos featured on-line. You can view the interview and see the pics on the link below.

My judging appointments have increased somewhat this year. I have been asked to judge for Tasmania as well as Nationally later this year. I am looking forward to the opportunity of seeing many photographs and images from around Australia and to judge them is a privilege.

On a recent trip to the north of Tasmania (February 2009) I took many new photos, some of which I am still sorting through and adding to the galleries when time permits. If you are interested take a look every now and again and there will be something new to see such as the image below.

2009 is already proving to be a year I will never forget, one way or another and, even though it is still in the earlier months of the year I hope by the end it will be a year I can look back on in the future with wonderful memories that will stay with me forever.

Bye for now and until next time

Cheers

Maggie
